You are a parent and your 3 year old girl has seen ballerinas and wants to be one. This means that you will either need to buy a ready made tutu, or make one yourself for your pretty little angel. We believe that the second option is the most fun and will be an experience to remember, for both you and your little girl, if she decides to help. If you don’t know how to make a tutu dress, you will after you read this. In the next few lines we will explain what you need and how to make a tutu dress. First of all, you have to get some supplies before starting. First, you will need the main material for the dress, several yards of tulle. This is the fluffy fabric that virtually is the tutu dress. You will probably need about 4 yards of tulle, and they can be the same color or maybe even four different ones. Ask your little girl what colors she likes, and choose those.
The back piece of this tutu dress will be the ribbon. You will need about three feet of satin ribbon of whatever color you like. Also make sure that you have a nice pair of scissors that have a clean cut, and a ruler. Make sure it is a large, transparent ruler with black writing, if you chose lighter colors, or vice versa. This is not really a requirement, but it will help you a lot. If you have all these, you can start making the tutu dress. Measure the waist of your little girl, and mark the ribbon with a knot on that exact length. This is usually about 20 inches in length for girls between the ages two and four. In any case, measure her waist and ark the according piece of ribbon.
Next, you will need to cut the tulle. First, take a piece of tulle and roll it, but you will want it to have no creases or wrinkles when you roll it. Cut the ends of that roll of tulle so that it is even. You can feel how it isn’t quite ok, and that is where you’ll need to adjust the roll. After the ends are even, you can measure 3 inches at the time of that roll, and cut it as many times as you can. After you have these pieces of tulle, remember the knot you made on the ribbon. It should still be there. Now, unfold the pieces of tulle and make sure that you tighten a knot with the tulle on the ribbon as tight as you can, and that you take that piece of tulle next to the knot on the ribbon. Make this as many times as necessary and you will have a dress in no time. After the ribbon is filled with pieces of tulle, tie it in a circle, and there you have it, you have learned how to make a tutu dress. |
